“Route 1 or the Ring Road is a national road in Iceland that runs around the island and connects most of the inhabited parts of the country.”
“Krysuvik-Seltun - This geothermal area has formed on the great divide between Europe and America - fissure zone of Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Several geothermal fields - Seltún, Hverahvammur, Hverahlíð and Austurengjar - here are located close together, each with its own charm and specifics.
Several eruptions have taken place in this area since the arrival of people to Iceland. Large eruption of Ogmundargigar volcano took place several kilometres from Krýsuvík in 1151. Lava reached the ocean then. Last eruptions in this area took place in the 14th century.”

Changes in the activity of Geysir and the surrounding geysers are strongly related to earthquake activity.
The nearby geyser Strokkur erupts much more frequently than Geysir, erupting to heights of up to 30 metres every few minutes. Strokkur's activity has also been affected by earthquakes, although to a lesser extent than the Great Geysir.
There are around thirty much smaller geysers and hot pools in the area
